Great performance at Stockport sets up key match with New Brighton for next Saturday

Stockport 3rds 0 Crewe & Nantwich 62

Crewe & Nantwich 2nds put on a clinical display on Saturday as they outplayed a struggling Stockport team in every department.
The first score came after 4 minutes after Flyhalf, Ben Telfer, had put Crewe into a great field position from his own 22 to the Stockport 10 mtr line. From the lineout won by Crewe, No 8 Josh Collins, burst through 2 tackles deep into the Stockport 22 and offloaded to flanker, Josh Howard, who scored 10 mtrs from the posts. The tries started to arrive at regular intervals and after 5 minutes, the ball went sweetly down the back line, full back Thom Vanstone, delivered a long pass to winger, Eddie Spibey, who outpaced the cover to score in the left hand corner. Another score from Josh Howard resulted by the now "famous" Super 2s 6 man catch & drive from a well worked 5 mtr lineout. Stockport still gamely tried to get into the game with their young fullback making a few incisive runs but unfortunately they kept playing a forwards game which suited the Crewe pack who dominated every phase. A scrum on the Stockport 5 metre line allowed nippy scrumhalf Kieran Alsop to sell a dummy and score under the posts. Another effective backline move performed at pace allowed a final switch pass to put in wing Adam Chalklin to score a try. An outstanding individual try was achieved by 2nd row Matty Wright as he received a pass in his own half and set off on a run. The Stockport defence closed him down on the halfway line and a little dummy and a sway of the hips reminiscent of the great Phil Bennet, created a gap which he smashed through and ran a full 50 mtrs at pace to score near the posts. The 2nd half continued in the same vein as Skipper, Dave Germain, urged his men on knowing that points are valuable in this tight league. Eddie Spibey scored a try early on as the ball came out from Flyhalf, Aaron Barker, who put Spibey into space and his pace took him around the cover to score from 40 mtrs out. Very soon, inside centre Robbo Roberts, got onto the score sheet as he broke from the Stockport 10 mtr line and cut inside the fullback to score a good try under the posts. Aaron Barker who has been out of action for some 18months with an ACL knee reconstruction, stamped his authority on the game when he received a sharp pass from Alsop in the Stockport 22 and with a neat side step shot through the resultant gap to score under the posts. The final try came from a penalty on the left hand side of the Stockport posts went through the half backs and a long miss pass from Flyhalf Barker to fullback Thom Vanstone created the space for a good score to finish the days efforts. There were numerous conversions from Ben Telfer and a determined 2nds have confirmed their serious promotion credentials with only 4 games remaining. Next week the 2nds play New Brighton at home KO 3pm and your support for this difficult fixture would be appreciated.
