Crewe and Nantwich Ladies have been confirmed as League Champions in the 2015 / 16 season in the National Challenge 2 North West competition.

he Black and White ladies enjoyed a highly competitive season; their first full season in rugby making their victory even more remarkable.

Home victories against league rivals Southport and Didsbury Toc H proved critical, the former being particularly satisfying given the physical nature of the encounter. Although the ladies boast a reputation for being devastating in attack, they built the foundations of their success on a parsimonious defence, conceding just 75 points all season (one of the best in the country across all competitions).

Team Captain, Helena Crook said of the league win: 'I'm delighted and so proud of the players. We faced some very tough teams and were made to work hard for every victory. I'm particularly pleased with how many of our players are new to the game, proving that with the right attitude and dedication, anyone can take up the game'.

The ladies lost just 2 games all season, both away games against Southport and Eccles II. Coach Nick Kennedy believes that actually, the loss to Eccles was pivotal in the league win, stating 'up to that point, we had won games by conceding points but scoring more. Our coaching focus shifted to build a tough, organised defensive wall that even the very best teams would struggle to breach'.

Sadly the final two games of the season were both conceded by the opposition leaving the ladies enduring an anxious wait for the final results to be confirmed, with Southport Ladies matching them on match points. In the event, Crewe and Nantwich's points difference of 150 made the difference and the ladies completed an incredible run of form with their first league victory in their first ever season, remaining unbeaten at The Vagrants in the process.

The coaching team would like to thank the wider club for their ongoing support this season. The home crowds have been brilliant for all involved.

The ladies are actively recruiting for the 2016/2017 season for both adults (18+) and juniors. For more information contact Matt Baty maff2@hotmail.com or Hannah Templeman hannah.g.templeman@gmail.com.
