Pre-season training is well underway at Crewe & Nantwich RUFC and newly appointed Director of Rugby, Andy Thompson and Head Coach, John Farr,

are calling for players old and new to come and join the black and white army!

Whether you have previously played rugby or are completely new to the game, Crewe and Nantwich offers the perfect balance of both social and competitive rugby, and there WILL BE a team for you! With a diverse mix of players and highly skilled coaching team led by new Head Coach John Farr, it’s the perfect opportunity to dust of those rugby boots or try something completely new, everyone is welcome!

This is a fantastic time to join the club, which is in a new era of transformation following the appointment of it’s first ever female Chairperson, Nicola Joyce, with all sections including; Mini’s, Youth, Girls, Ladies and Senior Mens; thriving with talent and offering an unbeatable atmosphere!

The newly appointed Director of Rugby, Andy Thompson, has played at the club since 1997 and his greatest achievements include defeating England international rugby star Danny Grewcock in a memorable one on one tackle (not sure Danny Grewcock will remember this)! Thompson’s vision for rugby at the club is too see all sides growing in numbers, with a huge emphasis on attracting and retaining players and offering a “one club” approach to rugby across all sections, where teams are not only competitive but love the game and the club!

Andy Thompson comments: “This is a huge honour for me to take the role of Director of Rugby at Crewe & Nantwich. Little did I know that when Stuart "Slugger" Simmons brought me to the club in 1997 I would still be here. This club has been my life, my family and has stuck by me during difficult times. I've played for the club, coached within the club and now as Director of Rugby I can hopefully put back into the club which has given me so much. With John Farr we have a fantastic "No Nonsense" coach who will bring the fun into training. It will be tough, but it will be with a smile on your face. We want to win every game we play, but more importantly we want to enjoy the game we love. I'm here just to help in any way I can. Let's move forward and get the momentum going. It's going to be a great season.

John Farr comments: “I feel very honoured to take on the role at a club that I love.We have a very strong squad from last season, where we narrowly missed out on promotion. On that front, I would like to thank, personally and on behalf of the club, Pete Allen. He was an excellent coach and has put the club in a strong position moving forward. We also have fresh blood on the committee. Excellent appointments in Nicola Joyce as Chair, and Andrew Pemberton as Vice Chair, joining a fantastically experienced group. The future is looking incredibly positive. Targets for the forthcoming season are to win every game with a smile on our face. The perfect balance of competitive rugby and a great social side. A club where every member of the C&N family feels welcome and happy.”

Pre-season training is now underway for the Senior Men’s sides every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.45pm at Crewe Vagrants on Newcastle Road in Nantwich. The club welcomes all new players of any level, so dig out those boots and join the black and white army!

Ladies pre-season will also be kicking off next month starting on 1st August from 7pm -9pm and running every Wednesday throughout the summer in their bid for promotion this season. Mini’s and Junior’s training will resume again on 5th September.
