A cruel exit for the second year in succession as 3rd XV bow out at Semi Final stage again

Heaton Moor 2nds 22 - Crewe & Nantwich 3rds 10

Cup Semi Final

Crewe & Nantwich travelled to Heaton Moor, for probably their biggest game of the season, with a full squad of 20 players and were optimistic of progressing after unluckily being knocked out at the same stage last season. Home advantage was with Heaton Moor but with Captain, Ian Moss, galvanising his men, it was all to play for.

Crewe & Nantwich travelled with a full squad of 20 players and were optimistic of progressing after unluckily being knocked out at the same stage last season deteriorating although Heaton Moor managed to manufacture a converted try just before halftime. The tactic for the second half was to tighten up the game, play for the left hand corner, and get hard running centre Kevin Haughton to power his way across the gain line giving the forwards a target. Crewe applied the plan perfectly with flyhalf, Dave Morris, bossing proceedings. After a 15 minute period on the Heaton Moor line and several infringements by them, Crewe were eventually awarded a penalty try and took the lead 7-10. Crewe had the momentum now but the Heaton Moor scrum became even more dominant and they played off this platform. Good work in the lineouts by James Litchfield and Dylan Fletcher helped keep Crewe in the game as they picked off Heaton Moor throws but the scrums were the difference. Two more tries by Heaton Moor finished the contest and to be fair they deserved their win on the day. The boys did the club proud for the second season in succession and hopefully next year with another cup run and a home draw, they will take the next step to the Final.
We wish Heaton Moor every success in the Final.
