Former player Ian Cowap was paid tribute on Saturday by both the Rugby and Hockey clubs at Crewe Vagrants.

Prior to the start of the game , all the Crewe & Nantwich and opposition teams playing at home yesterday joined together, on the 1st XV pitch, for a one minute silence in memory of Ian Cowap who sadly passed away recently after a short illness. All 3 Crewe Vagrants Ladies Hockey teams also held a one minute silence before their games throughout yesterday in support of the family. Ian was a superb sportsman with his first love being cricket but he also played football and was an accomplished rugby player for Crewe & Nantwich 1st team in the 1980s. He scored some fabulous tries as a centre and was known for his silky running and fantastic turn of pace. His son, Tim was playing for the 1st Team yesterday and Tim's sister, Sally, formerly played 1st team for the Ladies Hockey team. Sally was present yesterday, along with Ian's wife and other family members. Ian, was a great supporter and friend of the club and his intelligent analysis after the game was much appreciated. He will be sadly missed.
