C&N Ladies 89 - Workington Zebra Finches 0

Crewe and Nantwich Ladies continued their winning streak with a 15 try demolition of the Workington Zebra Finches at the Vagrants.
Crewe's win takes them to second in the NC 2 North West league with a game in hand.
The Crewe Ladies made short work of Workington who struggled to find any momentum in the face of a committed and direct pack. India Perris-Redding opened the scoring in trademark style with a quick step and run down the left wing and Workington never really regained their composure. Sally Cox kicked extras, going on to bag a try and five more conversions in a player of the match winning display from scrum half.
The addition of a skilled goal kicker to the squad will give Crewe confidence going into the tough November fixtures list.
A matchday squad of 20 players enabled coaches Baty, Jones and Kennedy to see a range of players in the heat of battle. A number of performances stood out with Simone Christopher scoring 2 tries from full back and making the tackle of the match to prevent a likely try. Becci Dimond, in her first ever game of rugby was unlucky not to have scored an excellent debut try after some sharp hands from returning captain, Helena Crook. The coaching team will also be pleased with the contribution from Cherie Davies at second row, returning recently from injury, and Mercedes Lyons continues to gain confidence, making her physical presence felt in the tackle and carrying the ball strongly in the loose.
As players tired in the 2nd half Crewe's fitness yet again told as the pack asserted themselves against a heavier opposition 8. Katie Heirene was at her dynamic, aggressive best in front of an appreciative home crowd. Kerry Dynan also continued her meteoric rise with a skillful display from tighthead, making a real nuisance of herself in the loose with partner in crime Louise Reade putting in a powerful, spikey display from loosehead. Chelsea Hobbs continued where she left off against Didsbury with some strong carries and hard tackles from lock.
Out wide, Claire Warehouse opened her account for the season with a sharply taken try on 15mins, combining well throughout the match with Jordan Morris at 13. The balance of pace and power in the midfield is likely to give teams a headache all season. Laura Heming ably slotted in too defying her inexperience with some strong, direct running, Jules Pemberton also contributed well demonstrating some sound technique in the tackle area enabling Laura Hollinshead and Katie Heirene to recycle quickly at the breakdown. Laura was a handful all game against Workington, bringing some excellent lines of running and pace to the game from a summer season playing Touch Rugby.
In a game lacking in structure and competition in the last quarter, Crewe and Nantwich Ladies showed their ruthless side in the loose. Christy Roberts ran hard and Phoebe Jay and Georgie Perris-Redding in particular showed some good game and space awareness and good hands; Georgie's pick up and run for a try from Jordan Morris' down-field kick was far more technically challenging than she made it look.
As Crewe and Nantwich Ladies go into a congested November, confidence is high and, importantly so is strength in depth. With some top teams awaiting them, they will go into games with a growing reputation. Less than 1 year in, that is quite an achievement.
